federal income tax forms are available from January - April 15.
Reproducible sets of Maryland and federal income tax forms
for the current tax year are also available.
Some libraries also keep sets of limited range of past years. Call your
local library for
details.
The charge per photocopy is $.15. If a
particular form cannot be located, please inquire at the Information Desk.
Our libraries provide a variety of reference and circulating books related to personal and business
income tax. For a list of material owned search the
Baltimore County Public Library catalog. Type in "tax", "income tax"
or other appropriate keyword or select a specific title or author, remembering to then choose
the appropriate search type from the drop down box list.

Baltimore County
Department of Aging Tax Aide Counseling

Free assistance to low- and
middle-income taxpayers age 60 or older is provided at senior centers and
other sites throughout Baltimore County from February 2 through April 15
each year. Appointments are required at most locations.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)

This program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income ($36,000 and
below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Internal Revenue
Service-trained volunteers
sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic
tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally
located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping
malls, and other convenient locations.

Face-to-Face Tax Help in Maryland

If you need to resolve a tax problem, have questions about how the tax
law applies to your individual tax return, or you're more comfortable
talking with someone in person, visit your local Taxpayer Assistance
Center. No appointment is necessary - just walk in - but if you prefer,
you can call a local number and leave a message requesting an
appointment to resolve a tax account issue. Multilingual assistance is
available in every office.

Tax Sale

On
March 1, a Final Tax Sale Notice is mailed. This allows 30 days to pay the
property taxes.
Baltimore County posts properties to be sold for
nonpayment of state and county taxes and other
liens on its website around the first of May.

Baltimore County Property Tax Credit for Historic Rehabilitation

Baltimore County Property Tax Credit: Natural Disaster Property Tax Credit
[PDF]

The
Natural Disaster property tax credit is for homeowners repairing
the damage Hurricane Isabel did to their homes. Homeowners must submit an
application form to the Baltimore County Director of Budget and
Finance by September 30, 2005 if their home has already been
reassessed; or within 30 days after their new assessment is issued if they
have not yet been reassessed. To qualify for this credit, repair or
reconstruction must be completed by December 31, 2006. It
provides seven years of relief from increased county and state property
taxes.

Property Assessment
Maryland
State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT)

Property tax bills are issued in
July/August of each year by the 24 counties (including Baltimore City) and
the 155 incorporated municipalities (cities) in Maryland. The amount of the
tax bill is determined by two factors: (1) the assessment; (2) the property
tax rate. Assessments are based on the fair market value of the property and
are issued by the Department of Assessments and Taxation, an agency of State
government. Property tax rates are set by each unit of government - the
State, counties, and cities.
