Hot Titles
Tips for using BCPL's Hot Titles list: Click on any tip below to learn the answer
One of the biggest criticisms that we heard regarding our previous versions of “Hot Titles” is that our customers wanted to know about “more books, sooner!” The library orders new materials every day but our previous “Hot Titles” lists were only updated every two weeks (at best) so that many books have been in the system for a while before they ever hit the lists. To help fix that: we have changed how we create and link to titles on “Hot Titles” and now items can be added to these lists by our staff at any time and not just every two weeks. This new way of accessing “Hot Titles” improves the timeliness of the lists.
No more clicking on a cover to get into our catalog! Just click on the "Hold Request" button right next each title. Keep in mind that there IS a $1.00 "Book Ahead" fee if you place a request for materials that are still on order.
See up to one hundred titles on a page at a time: We default our catalog to only give ten hits on each page so that we can make sure that the pages load quickly. However: you can change YOUR personal preferences (for this session) by clicking on the link “Open Search Options” at the top of the page, scroll to the bottom and, under “miscellaneous options”, change the number from “10” to “100” (which is currently shorter than any of our Hot Title lists). Then click on the “Set Search Options” button and all of your searches will default to 100 as long as you don’t close the browser session. In that way, you’ll be able see the entire list on one easy to browse page.
Most of our "Hot Titles" lists are sorted by author but you can use the sort field at the top of the lists to re-sort by “relevance” which -on these lists- has the effect of putting the older titles are at the top of the list and the most recent additions are at the bottom. Just go to the end of the list and there are the most recent additions.
Our new format now lets you use your library account and save books to your own personal reading lists such as "Books I Want to Read," "New Mysteries," etc. Just click on the "Add to my list" on the righthand side of the screen to save that title for your future reference.
The library will be continuing to provide PDF/printer friendly versions of these lists however they will now only be updated monthly. Remember that the live linked versions of the lists are updated all the time so the printer friendly versions will not include the latest entries.
Our new format makes it easier for you to navigate your genres of interest by reading reviews or summaries, finding similiar titles, seeing what else the author has written, narrowing your browsing to particular topics of interest and lots more.
The new pages also prevents many of the cataloging problems that you may have noticed on our previous pages and that were caused in part by publishers changing information such as cover art, ISBNs, titles, etc.
