| : | CAREER INTEREST INVENTORY: All 9th grade students complete career interest inventories: the career game and Red Hot Jobs. Students examine careers that relate to their personal interests and information on each of these occupations. 9TH GRADE CAREER DEVELOPMENT UNIT: A Career Development Unit is being piloted in CPI I courses during the 1997-98 school year to teach students employability skills and Maryland's nine career clusters. JOB SHADOWING: Students who go through the career development unit will have an opportunity to job shadowing. COMPLETER FAIR: A completer fair is held for students prior to registration to introduce them to Kenwood's various programs. CAREER PLANS: During second semester registration, students choose which completer program the plan to pursue. Students receive a pamphlet detailing the course requirement of their chosen program. THINK BIG SEMINAR: Selected students have the opportunity to attend Dr. Carson's "Think Big" seminar. CAREER ORIENTED PROGRAM: This program is designed for students identified as educationally disadvantaged. Career exportation and community experiences are used to motivate these students to continue their education and to prepare them for futher career training. |

SUMMER JOB FAIR: Students 16 years of age or older have the opportunity to actually interview one-on-one with prospective employers for summer positions. CAREER ORIENTED PROGRAM: This program is designed for students identified as educationally disadvantaged. Career exploration and community experiences are used to motivate these students to continue their education and to prepare them for further career training. |
| PORTFOLIOS: Juniors are given portfolios in order to better prepare them for the world of work/or higher education. Students meet with their advisors to discuss ways in which to enhance their portfolios. Specific portfolio activities take place in social studies classes. RESUMES: Students develop their resumes in English to store portfolios. COLLEGE VISITATIONS: College bound students have the opportunity to participate in Kenwood's Job Shadowing Program in order to obtain an inside look into a profession of their choice. SUMMER JOB FAIR: Students 16 years of age or older have the opportunity to actually interview one-on-one with prospective employers for summer positions. DIVERSIFIED OCCUPATIONS: This program is designed to offer high school students the opportunity to gain work experience in an occupational area of their choice. The student's on-the-job training experiences are complemented by classroom instruction directed toward the development of proper work attitudes. |
| INVENTORIES: Students have the opportunity to take the ASFAB. PORTFOLIOS: Seniors continue to update their portfolios in order to better prepare themselves for the world of work and/ higher education. RESUMES: Students revise and/or update their resumes in English. SENIOR INTERVIEW DAY: Each senior has a one-on-one interview with a business or college representative. On this day, students are evaluated on their interview skills and resume. COLLEGE VISITATIONS: College bound students have the opportunity to attend field trips to local colleges and universities to learn about the specific school's source offerings and facilities. JOB SHADOWING: Students have the opportunity to participate in Kenwood's Job Shadowing program in order to obtain an inside look into a profession of their choice. FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP: Two financial aid workshops are available. An evening workshop is held for parents and students to introduce them to the financial aid process and to answer their questions. a hands-on workshop is also held during the school day in order to guide students through completing the FAF. SUMMER JOB FAIR: Students 16 years of age or older have the opportunity to actually interview one-on-one with prospective employers for summer positions. DIVERSIFIED OCCUPATIONS: Students on-the-job training experiences are complemented by classroom instruction directed toward the development of proper work attitudes. COOPERATIVE OFFICE EDUCATION PROGRAM: This program is designed as a capstone experience for students who have completed a course of study in the areas of clerical, accounting, or computer operations. Students are linked to training sites in the community in order to provide realistic work experiences. INTERNSHIPS PROGRAM: Internships are available to students in the Sports Science and Family Studies programs to provide practical experience and knowledge in their specific field. |
