What is Career Connections? 

   areer Connections is Maryland's comprehensive school-to-careers system which supports school reform, work force preparation, and economic development. The primary aim is for all students to leave high school prepared to enter a career or higher education.

How do educational partnerships relate to Career Connections? 

   chools and business will create career connections for students by developing proactive Educational Partnerships.

Who may be a partner? 

   chools, businesses, and organizations which are interested in working with students to affect the future work force may be partners.

What is the time frame of an educational partnership?

Why do I need a partner? 

  chools and students benefit from access to business partners who have knowledge of career opportunities. Business organizations benefit from community involvement and recognition, while helping to develop a qualified and committed work force.

How do I get started? 

  chools and businesses interested informing partnerships should contact the Office of Career Connections.

What does it mean to be an educational partner? 

  t means participation in a recognized program to improve educational opportunities for students.

Who will be responsible for necessary training? 

  he Office of Career Connections has experienced partnership coordinators who will provide training.

Who will be involved in the partnership? 

   nyone in the business, school, and community may be involved in the partnership.

Who will be my contact person? 

  ach partner will select a liaison to coordinate partnership activities.

How will communication be established and maintained once a partnership is formed? 

  ey personnel from the business and the school will be identified to maintain communication.

What kind of time/human resources commitment is required? 

   This will be determined by each partnership.

Are elementary students too young to be partnered with a business? 

   Absolutely not! It is never too early to expose students to career options.

What are the signs that the partnership is beginning to stagnate? 

   Little or no activity has taken place between partners, and there has been infrequent communication.

How do I revitalize a fading partnership? 

   Contact the Office of Career Connections or reestablish communication with your partner.

Can a business be considered a partner if it only makes a donation of money or equipment to the school? 

   No. Human resources must be the primary objective. However, donations of materials and resources are appreciated and recognized by the school or school system program.
